KEEP TRUSTING IN THE NAME OF THE LORD OUR GOD
Main Text: PSALM 20:1-9
- Trusting in someone or something does not easily happen.
- There should be factors contributing to the act of trust to emerge.
- Trust require one part (or both) to: believe in, have faith in, depend on, count on, etc.
- Ethically/Socially – trust is one of the elements a moral person or leader must acquire.
- Trust remains to be one of the critical requirements in most organizations & institutions.
- The Hebrew word for Trust used most often in the OT is batah – meaning a feeling of security which often comes through reliance on someone or something.
- The verb batah/trust can be used with either a Positive or Negative connotation.
- When trust focus on God it becomes – POSITIVE (PSALM 4:5 – Offer the sacrifices of the righteous and trust in the Lord).
- When trust focus on human beings or things other than God it becomes NEGATIVE (PSALM 41:9– Even my close friend, someone I trusted, has turned against me; PROVERBS 28:26 – Those who trust in themselves are fools….).
- Biblically – God remain to be trustworthy at all times – 2 TIMOTHY 2: 13
“If we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself”
- Moreover, the Lord our God remains to be Omnipotent, Omnipresent and Omniscient.
- All these facts and many others make us continue trusting in the name of the Lord our God and not in any other names or things.
- It is also important to remember that human beings do change at times, making it difficult to be trusted 100%.
- Things and institutions that we may put our trust in, they do change as well and even lose its original shape or focus; but not the Lord our God – (Main Text).
Why Should We Trust in the Name of the Lord our God?
- ASSURANCE OF SALVATION THROUGHT JESUS
- Salvation is only found in the name of Jesus – ACTS 4:12
- No any other name under heaven given to human kind for their salvation
- Hence, to emphasize on other names/things than the Lord Jesus is wrong
- Whoever calls upon the name of the Lord will be Served and Blessed – ROM. 10: 12-13
- ASSURANCE OF PRESENT SUPPORT FROM GOD
- We have an access to call upon the God at any time – PSALM 116:1-7
- Our God will always hear our voice and cry and release His mercy unto us
- Our God is gracious, righteous and full of compassion
- We can call upon him as well in the day of trouble – PSALM 50: 15
Let me conclude by saying that,
- Believers today ought to be aware of people/preachers who try to make people and their followers put their trust in them and their ministry and not trusting in God.
- If we want to have the assurance of our salvation and the true support for our needs, let us always put our trust in the Lord our God.
- Remember, we hold and put our trust in God because of who is and what he does to us.
- Our God will remain to be trustworthy even if some people may not trust in Him.
- Choose today to keep trusting in the Lord our God and your will be served and cared.
